Bugsy
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6583067.stmTo be honest, I'm sick and tired of being lectured by global warming hypocrites. These whining, fatuous self-important morons demand that everyone else make sacrifices in the name of mother earth while they zoom around in CO2-belching private jets and lavish themselves in heated swimming pools. Shortly after the crazed Crow demanded that we all use one square of toilet paper per s!£t, it was revealed that her touring requirements include three tractor trailers, four buses and six cars. She's not the only one. At the British premiere of his movie Wild Hogs, actor John Travolta urged everyone to "do their bit" to fight global warming, warning that "We have to think about alternative methods of fuel." That's a bit rich, considering that Travolta has five private jets parked on his own runway and has produced an estimated 800 tons of carbon emissions, 100 times more than the average person in the last year, is a "serving ambassador" for the Australian airline Qantas, and named his son Jett as a tribute to his love of flying. So, when idiots such as Crow and Travolta lecture me about "doing my bit", forgive me if I tell them to go f!£k themselves....

Charlotte3
Was there not a tv programme some weeks ago on which emminent experts told us that global warming was inevitable and wasn't actually our fault at all? From what I heard, they said there was nothing we could do about it?There, that's better! (sound of a guilty conscience being salved!)Aly
AnOther
Yes, and it was a hot potato at the time:http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/898963/ShowPost.aspxYou can watch it on onlinehttp://video.google.com/videosearch?q=global+warming+swindleand take your pick. cooperlola
And sadly, just as with these so called celebrities, I feel these things just serve to take our eyes off the ball. There were many technical arguments in the programme and in the previous thread. I guess you need to know a lot more about the science of the thing to judge the issue. However, global warming or not - we are going to run out of resources and places to dump our old cr*p. Even if you can dismiss the global warming arguments (and I think that's quite tough), being energy conscious and trying not to over-use the planet's resources should still be something we think about every day. What kind of planet will your children and their children have left to live in if we plunder the planet regardless of the consequences and fill every available piece of land with the resulting poisons?Using one sheet of loo paper per visit is not going to solve this. It makes a serious topic into a foolish joke. That's the problem.
Quillan
I agree with bit about dumping the waste and resources running out. I think we need to be more careful in the way we use energy. I followed the link and read aboout the coach and the fuel it was using. I did a google search on biodiesel. There is some interesting stuff and it's cheap and easy enough to make at home. In the UK even with declaring and paying duty it's only around 40p per ltr to make. Aparently it takes 4 hours to make around 180 ltrs (http://www.foe.co.uk/resource/case_studies/homebrew_biodiesel.pdf).The thing is that there is a multimillion pound/dollar/Euro industry build around being green and everything costs so much. Low energy bulbs cost loads of money. I know people will say yes but you get your money back after 5 years I don't think that's good enough. People just won't spend loads of money this way. If governments want us to change they need to help us. Why not give all houses a starter pack containing things that will help lower their energy requirements. Lets say 5 low energy lamps, one solar panel, compost maker etc. You want more then you pay but you have at least got the basics. Perhaps they can pay for it from the extra environment tax they are putting on people's airline tickets. One sheet of paper, well honestly! Mind you these days its the sort of law that would get passed.

Frederick
Confusing all this .....why is it when in 1991 Mount Pinatubo volcanic eruption took place and a massive amount of muck and gasses went up into the stratsphere the result was a global cooling that lasted two years ? and after the Clean Air Act stopped all the coal burning in open grates in 1970 the temperate went up right after ? ......these two massive amounts of polution seemed to be causing global cooling ? I think we could take all the cars off the road and one volcano erupting would wipe out the effect of that in moments .
cooperlola
I guess that was my point, Frederick. Even if volcanos are bigger contributers to global warming than the human race, does this mean we should just use fuel without concerning ourselves about the sustainability of doing so? What are your children and your children's children going to run their cars on if we use up all the fuel on the planet within the next 100 years? It could happen unless we try to limit our consumption and find sustainable alternatives, global warming, or not.
WJT
Personally, I want to do my share and I wouldn't mind all of the green taxes if they were put to good use. If it were up to me I would put them ALL into research to find a good reliable clean energy source that we all could use and never have to be dependent on gas and oil in the future. But it isn't up to me [:-))] so I guess the money just goes into the coffers. [:(]

WJT
Just reading the French News little things like this make me angry as well. Under a 1992 treaty, EU headquarters must be switched from Brussels to Strasbourg for a four-day period every month. The treaty was agreed upon to ensure that France had one important institution on its territory.Transporting all the documents and files the 450km between the two cities generates annual carbon emissions of 20,000 tonnes a year and cost EU tax payers 200 million euro a year. Strasbourg sits for four days a month and is left empty the rest of the time. There have been a petition to stop the two-site arrangement but the arrangement would require an unanimous agreement of member states rare in EU history. But of course they hold many meetings on this issue and will continue to fly all of the delegates in to debate and discuss and find ways to help stop global warming. Frederick
Last month a guy delighted in telling me that 41 centimetres of sea level rise would put most of the Vendee back under sea water from where it was reclaimed from . The village my place is in was once an island and my house is up on a slope .....but given all the arguements for and against I doubt I will see the benefit of having a house with beach frontage !
