Moderators Hat ON

I am unsure what to do with this thread.

We have had a complaint (only one) that the original post was racist.  Some who know my background will know that I have specific reason to pick up on racist issues. There is a person posting in the thread who has an even bigger reason to do so. It's not the sort of thing I would personally have posted but I do find it moderately funny.

Because of this I have decided to leave the thread as it is. I would prefer that the racist issue was not discussed in this thread but that if you feel that this thread is racist then please hit the report button and let me/us know. If three or more people object then I/we will delete the thread. It seems the fairest way to deal with the issue.

Sorry for interrupting the thread and thanks in advance.

Black mans hat on:  Cannot say i have read anything racist in this thread at all.  Bugbears original post was a light-hearted reflection on what was probably a pretty accurate state of being in some parts of the world and in times not too distant.  My comments, merely reflect that in those times, repugnant as they were, the KKK we pretty successful at what they did, albeit illegal as it was.

This is a light-hearted thread, and not meant as anything else.  Accepting we all have different levels of tolerance for these things, i think the key message (subliminal as it is) is that times have moved on as bugbear states. Black people are leading the world in some areas, and coming up very quickly in others.  Lets not get bogged down in racist dogma everytime someone mentions someone black....have a read and accept it for what it is........nothing too serious :-)) Couldn't see the link or attachment in OP so cannot comment on that.

I am amazed. Two things - first, that anybody should have been so bitter and twisted as to find anything offensive in the original very amusing post. And second, that I should find myself agreeing with and supporting the moderators.

Let's all applaud the fact that in Lewis Hamilton we have a truly remarkable and outstanding sporting talent. Even granted that he has been lucky enough to have been given the best equipment, and had the best possible education, what he has achieved in such a short time is quite amazing. Not only does he have the talent of  Michael Schumacher (and, arguably, Ayrton Senna ), he is a nice guy, and apparently unflappable on the track, too. Even the French seem to have taken to him, despite the fact that he is British. If his luck holds, and he wins the championship in his first year, it will be thoroughly deserved.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

I think calling the person who complained bitter and twisted is grossly unfair because you don't know who they are. They could, for instance, be a long standing member of our forum who has never had cause to complain in the past.

As to racism, as I said I would prefer that topic to be discussed elsewhere in another thread to ensure this thread stays on topic.

I saw the OP as a pop at the KKK which as I'm sure we all agree is a vicious and evil organisation and the best way to destroy such things and attitudes is to poke fun at them and ridicule them.  Lewis Hamilton is the first and only black F1 driver out of a multitude of nationalities, although this is a fact it is irrelevent as such he is a fantastic role model for ALL young people.  As was said before, he is an amazing talent and he has done in F1 what Tiger Woods has done in golf, proved that it's the person that matters, not the skin.

Edit: Quillan, I 'cross posted' this with your last reply - I'm quite happy for this to be deleted if thought Off Topic - I was just trying to support the OP (and Lewis)

Well, as the OP, I'm a bit taken back that anyone would take offense at what was a truthful statement of fact (the KKK), said in a lighthearted manner. As a true 'petrolhead' I have watched LH's rise to fame and follow and support him totally.

Thanks particularly to Chief for your response..............................and everyone else who read it as it was intended.

With that said, my money is still on Alonso to take the championship this year.

You may well prove to be right, Bugbear. On the other hand, although Alonso is an established champion Lewis has beaten him hands down in the temperament and maturity stakes so far. Who was it who said 'when the flag drops, the bullsh*t stops'? Could have been coined just for Lewis. Can he keep it up, particularly if things don't run quite so well in his favour in the next race or two? Nobody knows for sure but I think he can. Then, can MacLaren maintain the superiority? Ferrari and BMW are almost up with them, and other, surprising, teams are not far behind. What is certain is that it is going to be an interesting rest of year, whoever ends up on top. What a pity we won't get to see M Schumacher vs Hamilton (or will we? [;-)] ).

I think the comparison with Tiger Woods is a good one. Both have shown they can compete in a white-dominated sport - to such effect that after the initial surprise we have forgotten the skin colouring.

This original posting by Bugbear is not the least bit offensive.

It is witty and accurate.
