AnOther
For those interested in satellite pictures have a look at www.192.com/mapsThey now have the most detailed and up to date pictures ever of the UK, down to 1":12.5m (approx 1:500), scary and just the local council needs to check up properties for conservatories and the like to put the council tax up [:-))]For France the www.geoportail.fr site has been revamped although I don't see much different in the satellite pictures themselves. Salty Sam
www.192.com/maps might be advertised as being up-to-date, but for my particular area of the UK it's at least 10 years out-of-date!Google's version is far more accurate.
AnOther
I'd say that the 192 views of my ex UK property are maybe 2 to 3 years old and at least twice as close and of better quality than on Google but there you go...[;-)]
Sunday Driver
192.com doesn't even show any trace of the M6 Toll road which was being built near us about four years ago. Our house has the wife's old 2CV sitting in the drive - we sold it about eight years ago..Geoportail.fr is at least four years out of date for our area. Baz
192.com is the most up to date site for me in the UK. It shows my car which is about two years old. Baz
Salty Sam
Baz,It's a bit like the battle between the mobile phone providers who used to advertise "Our service provides 98% coverage of the UK"! In reality they provide 98% coverage of the population.192.com provide up-to-date image mapping for a fairly small percentage of the country i.e. - main areas of population. Even this is questionable in some cases - try and zoom in in on the M6 Toll! The mapped road vanishes beneath ploughed fields!Another area clearly shows the windmills erected some 7 or 8 years ago, yet the adjoining imaging tile shows a nice green field where a bungalow should be - it was built around 10 - 12 years ago! Suze01
Regarding the timings of the images, on Geoportail.fr I can accurately say that the image was taken between march and may 2005. I know because it was during our pool re-build and fosse installation and I can clearly see all the works in progress!
AnOther
I can only say that in the press article I read about 192.com it claimed that the whole of the UK had been remapped bar a small corner of Yorkshire where it was perpetually cloudy...!
