cooperlola
Any e-mail that suggests sending 25 more e-mails makes me suspicious though. Basically you can't win with these things, d*mned if you do; potentially d*mned if you don't.

Panda
As cooperlola says anything that states, 'tell all your friends' smacks of hoax and the virus vendors actually end up stopping the warnings in as many numbers as the email they are trying to warn against. Cat
There's a lot of confusion here. If you follow the Snopes link in the original post, if even has an exact copy of the warning message, but they are two different viruses. AFAIK, the virus that can "burn" the whole of your hard disc has not yet been invented. It's an exact rewording of the old Olympic Torch hoax, doing a timely return. As long as your virus definitions are up to date, you have nothing to worry about in any case. Panda
Well in an ideal world yes, but there are still new viruses being invented and these can get through signature based scanners. Sadly viruses have been known to wipe hard disks, these are less common these days though and most viruses are the trojan type with the aim of stealing data. Cat
Sorry Gary, nothing personal...( there'll be gossip [kiss] ).Edit: It's hardly a new virus, the evidence of its discovery was posted on the internet in early 2007. Any virus protection outfit that hasn't updated its definitions since then is standing on very shaky ground. Norton themselves (ahem) list it as a risk level 1 (very low).
