dickdastardly
Napolean said the British were a nation of shoopkeepers. Well my dad is a plumber and has been for 48 years, so it looks like he was wrong!
dickdastardly
Mind you, Dad always said he wanted to live every day as if it was his last so he's spent the last 5 years in bed on a ventilator with a tube stuck up his bum!

Did you know B & Q own two of France's biggest DIY stores (Kingfisher actually but they own B & Q and Screwfix)..?I think though that as France is so spread out the demise of the smaller shops will not be a rapid as it was in the UK.... Quarmby
When you look at the attitude to service in most French shops - especially the grands surfaces - you realise that when Napoleon made that remark he was paying the British a compliment. He'd probably had one Gallic shrug too many when he made it.
