Dick Smith
Much discussion of his demise on motorsport forums. He was a useful racer and entrant, as well as starring in 'Le Mans'. A few weeks ago he had his last outing in his favourite car, when it was clear he would be physically unable pretty soon. A sad, but dignified, ending. mint
Mine's got to be "The Godfather". And I loved the theme tune. OK, might be a cliche now, but it made me think of hot parched dry land and oranges and lemons.
Russethouse
That is very sad indeed - he was a fantastic actor and a true gentleman. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7639614.stmhttp://newsforums.bbc.co.uk/nol/thread.jspa?forumID=5413&edition=2&ttl=20080927170500

dr orloff
His best performances for me were The Hustler and Hud. Probably the most down to earth superstar ever.

5-element
But he was 83 or 84, I really had no idea and thought he must be about 65-70....
mint
5-e, I know what you mean. I still think of Brigitte Bardot as a blonde 40-something at most and then, I see a recent picture of her and think, what on earth!Likewise stars like Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman.Ditto with conductors of orchestras. Saw Bernard Haitinck (spelling?) recently on a proms programme and nearly died of shock.Mind you, if I were to meet up with friends from earlier on in my life, it would be they who would die of shock! 5-element
Woody Allen is someone who has aged well - unlike BB who has turned into a scarecrow. Maybe those who don't depend on their good looks age better? That's not quite true actually. Clint Eastwood is still very handsome. So was Lauren Bacall last time I saw her.
