DerekJ
Long overdue in the UK (if it works). This could cause a few problems for some drivers in France if a similar process was adopted I suspect.
Dick Smith
An interesting comment:"The vast majority - about 90% - paid up on the roadside. The DVLAbelieves this indicates that a significant proportion had no idea theyhad to register their cars in Britain."Given the times we have seen someone argue with SD about this... What documentation will they have to produce in the UK??? valid isurance? valid MOT if applicable etc. That doesn't sound like a quick roadside signup. thunderhorse
BBC reporting at its scaremongering best:
But some of the vehicles seized have been described as "death traps" by NCP Services - the company which enforces the law.In one west London pound, a Lithuanian transit van had bits of its bumper hanging off and only one wing-mirror.
Unless the C & U Regs have changed, the van requires an external offside mirror, and either, an internal rear-view mirror or external nearside mirror. An alarmist death-trap statement of only one wing mirror does not make use of the vehicle illegal.Damned reporters! Benjamin
The DVLAbelieves this indicates that a significant proportion had no idea theyhad to register their cars in Britain."Well they would say that wouldn't they? That's exactly what Dave in the Dordogne or Vic in the Vendée would say to a gendarme and hope they get away with it.At least the DVLA are getting some money off them.
