There was a report about asiatic ladybirds on rfi a couple of weeks ago. The local pompiers suggested that you use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of them.

I had those rosemary beetles on my lavender in France this year. They had been very destructive before I noticed them and destroyed them.

I believe that there has also been an invasion of other parasites in the Midi:

the plane trees along the Canal are under threat, as are other trees in the region.

No but it is an immigrant from America..

We recently lost a couple of Elm trees to Dutch Elm disease (spread by beetles).  We have two more that look as if they have succumbed as well.  I had no idea that this bl**dy immigrant was still around and still so destructive.  I had naively assumed it was a 1970's disaster that had since pretty much disappeared (rather like tie-die cheesecloth shirts).

.............and what, exactly, is wrong with tie-dye cheesecloth shirts. I've still got one somewhere. highly unlikely that it will still fit me, of course, they are known to shrink in storage.
