Protecting a name

I can't see how you can do that unless you make it a registered trade mark (or marque deposé here). That costs money... amount depends on where you want it protecting and other things.

of course the upside is that someone else can't protect a name either without hassle so you can call your blog Woolybanana.... and if someone else does too you can fight it out somewhere or just make yours more interesting and they'll probably give up.

Write your idea down and send it to yourself by registered mail, do not open unless you need to prove you had the name first.

If you want to spend money lodge it with your solicitor.

If your name is ripped off in somewhere like India, China or Russia there is not much you can do.

Good Luck.

The same applies to a song, story or invention.

[/quote]I don't think it is as simple as that. For songs, stories etc it might be OK to get a copy dated and certified legally but as for inventions, they would have to be patented. This can be very expensive and only lasts a certain period of time and only applies in certain countries.

As for the name of a blog, to me, it would have to be a trade mark and that has to registered and paid for in a certain country and only applies to certain countries. Even then, there would be nothing to stop anyone having their own version of said blog hosted some other place.
