Not only do they insist on keeping elderly cars going - with increasingly bad emissions, of course - but who can guess how much fuel is burnt every day in rural areas keeping the family in fresh bread for every meal? It should have been translated as "legendary", because that's the word an English journalist would have used in those circumstances.
