BigWalker
British passport holders do not need a visa to enter the US. But you do now need to give details online before you go. This process is called ESTA. If you Google on "ESTA" or "US entry" or various other key words, Google will throw up, as usual, a welter of webpages. Among these will be many scams. They appear to be official US government websites. They ask you for your passport details, et cetera, then they ask you for your credit card details. Any website which asks you for money regarding ESTA is a scam. It is a free process. THIS is the official ESTA website, which will not ask you for money. The others are charging you for "assisting" you with what is a bit of very simple form-filling. It cost Big Walker's Bride and me 90 dollars to bring you this advice. Russethouse
I followed the link from the airline I'm travelling with... as you say a free process.....
Will
It's the same for many other things. The European Health Insurance Card (with several official-looking web sites that will add a charge whereas it's free through the NHS) and the UK Land Registry to name but two (though the latter is a little more understandable as the land registry isn't itself free and is messing about, closing down its own direct service). I'd be very surprised if the French services were immune from the attentions of the money-but-little-value-added brigade.
