woolybanana
.....something like this was suggested? Riots, mass suicides from the Eiffel Tower. Sounds about right though.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/think-tank-a-million-public-sector-jobs-must-go-1836311.html
Pommier
I think it's all rather scarey and depressing. Where are the alternative jobs for all these people?
woolybanana
Well, that is always the problem isn't it, do they get made redundant and live off the State or are they kept in pseudo jobs, paid by the taxpayer but paying taxes in return and having the pride of working? Certainly the French idea of replacing one for two would be a good start. And bringing wages and outut into line with the private sector. Probably a bit of both, to be realistic. Quillan
Well I remember seeing the riots in Perpignan when they tried to put the retirement age up. The Gendarmes were there but then they fell under the same suggested law change so looked the other way.The only thing I would say though is that I don't think, like in the UK, they would get much sympathy from the general public. I have seen one or two 'discussions' at both the Boule and Rugby Clubs in Quillan where people have become quite aggressive towards ex government officials that have retired early on a nice pension.
