Dog
It seems I am one of the very very few that watches Welsh language TV.BBC spend 100 million a year on it and 86% of the programmes have zero viewing figures! There could be some savings made. NickP
I don't have any problems at all with there being a Welsh language program, but would suggest that the best way to finance it; is to allow all those people in Wales who want to watch it, to be allowed to stop paying their licence money to the BBC and pay it direct to the Welsh channel. If that was not enough then let the Welsh Parliament pay for it, (if they feel that it is necessary to have a Welsh speaking program). This would save the BBC loads of money and the Welsh language speakers would be able to control their own channel. At the moment the BBC is under terrible pressure financially and loosing money on minority programs isn't good business. Another way to fund minority channels is to make them subscription. It makes no sense at all for the BBC to make programs that nobody watches, after all it is the licence payers money that is being wasted, this then makes other programs underfunded and they become rubbish, vicious circle. Quillan
I would like to see, with the exception of international sporting events, all sporting events removed. Football clubs can get together or even separately and broadcast there match's like Man U, Fulham, Chelsea already do with their own channels and people can pay to watch them. F1 is also a minority sport, that can go as well. Why should the licence payer line these peoples pockets, they have enough already. This would free up so much money which could be better spent elsewhere.Actually I would go even further, I think the days of the BBC being a public broadcaster are really over in this modern day and age, they need to commercialise like ITV, C4 etc.
Dog
Fi jyst fedda yn gwrandaw a yn cael a eiriau gwnelan mo ca i mewn Cymraeg. The beeb seems to be an old boys club they waste lots of money and have many highly paid executives. It seems once the BBC buys into an actor, comedian or celeb they are shuffled around programmes to guarantee a good living on the tax payer.I am quite happy to lose football, rugby, golf, cricket, horse racing and F1 - perhaps then if any do return they could pay much less for these events. It's boredom this year - it's the overpayed Footballists World Jamboree Cup this year and it will flood the TV with a snore inducing futile kicking of a ball.No doubt the Beeb will spend millions on this minority sporting coca cola event - yet more people go to museums than go to see footballists frenzidly frollicking. Will
Outside broadcasts from museums. Now that would be riveting viewing [;-)]I know what you mean though. I personally like the Gaelic channel (BBC Alba).
Dog
Alba is good and they have a lovely test card for much of the timeAs Sky has removed BBC 1 England we have to watch BBC 1 Scotland - they must do it by your given postcode to annoy you into paying for overpriced TV.It would be cheaper inside musuems so an outside broadcast team wouldn't be needed. The BBC just seem to want to pander to what they consider to be the large scale audience whilst the best TV is often cheaply made and not on a mainstream subject. My favourite ever TV was Sunnyside Farm which disappeared without trace, Outback Mechanics a bunch of indigenous antipodians travelling around Oz in wrecks of cars and another great one from down under was that midget cobber showing you 'stralia but trying to outdo others with different sorts of transport every programme even pitting his camel against another in a tug of war.... and if any more TV reporters get sent around the globe looking at global warming I will... mint
Of course, S4C is the most subsidised TV channel in the world!!!!!Me, I do understand and speak some Welsh and I would watch S4C if the programmes were worth watching! But, then the production values are very low and I am not bothered (to quote one Catherine Tate!)
