Can someone please explain to this technophobe and clueless person how you go about getting ID, password, whatever in order to be able to use the site?

First you must register, then you receive the other bits of info allowing you to log in and use the on-line

Thank you, Teapot.  I've had a quick look.  Just hope it recognises a French postcode!

You cannot do the actual return without what looks like a valid UK postcode. However it does not seem to matter what postcode you put - we do ours every year and just leave the French address as it shows on screen, then add the postcode for a building (not a house) we still own but say ":no" to "Have you changed your address"  - then off we go. 

You may have a problem registering if you do not have a UK address - not sure as we have done ours online for years.  Did them this year on  7th April, money back in  four days !!

Thank you for that info, Mrs H.  Four days?  I blinked when I read that.

Looks like it will have to be a matter of printing the damned forms and posting.........blast!

No longer have property in the UK so no UK address.

At least I now know what I need to do so thank you to all who have helped.
