amanda1953
Hope someone can help please!I moved to France permanently in June 2018, having owned a property here for several years but only using it as a holiday home.I am now panicking because I am not sure whether I need to make a tax declaration now for 2018? Bearing in mind I did not live the whole year in France.Any advice greatly appreciated.
idun
I would say yes. Strangely when looking for something else last night, and the wonders of the internet, the following page came up.And it states living in France for 6 months and that was your case. But I would do it anyway, even if you had been in France for less time. It sort of proves residence and you NEVER know when that will come in handy in the future.https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/work/taxes/income-taxes-abroad/france/index_fr.htm
Cathar Tours
You also have to take into account UK ruleshttps://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/work/taxes/income-taxes-abroad/united-kingdom/index_en.htmSeems to me you have to keep your travel documents to prove when you stayed where then tot the days up. If you have stayed in the UK for 183 days or more then you pay your tax in the UK, if not then France. You can't legally play both sides. This may help you to decide from the same website.https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/work/taxes/income-taxes-abroad/If you notice this is to do with working and not retirement or residency. pomme
It would be sensible anyway to get into the French system as early as possible so you can start collecting documents.
amanda1953
Thanks for your replies. I will have to get my skates on then as I have read that the first declaration needs to be a paper one rather than online and this needs to be in by May
