Edward Trunk
Does anyone know why the royals dress up as generals and admirals at weddings? It's not a military occasion. And when Princess Anne married her present husband he was a Lt-Commander. He's now a Vice-Admiral. How did that happen?

JSKS
What I don't understand is that William is an RAF Flight Lieutenant in his day job. So why was he wearing the dress uniform of a Colonel in the Irish Guards? Bit of rank snobbery there?
Russethouse
As I understand (I could be wrong) he has done stints with all three services however his highest rank is via the army so he wore that uniform. (And very good he and Harry looked IMHO [:)] )

Loiseau
Actually I thought the motto of the Irish Guards was rather suitable for a wedding day. "The Insignia of the Irish Guards on the Forage Cap is the eight-pointed Star of the Most Illustrious Order of St. Patrick, and features the Regiment’s motto ‘Quis Separabit?’ (‘Who shall separate us?’). "Maybe that helped to tip the balance.Angela
