nomoss
I'm sure the mealy-mouthed utterances of the Home Secretary will have a powerful effect. Scaaary.
nomoss
It's quite amazing. It's after midnight on the third day of uncontrolled riots and no-one seems to be in charge. Every few minutes the BBC reports fresh incidents in new places. The police seem to have nothing but shields and batons. No tear gas even. They just stand and look on, not much else they can do I guess. The little 5hits now know they can get away with it, so it's not going to get better tonight. Pads
I have been watching it too its scarey isnt it ? No other country would stand for it ... so many police cut backsmeans there is a dam site more of the scum than the police
nomoss
I don't think the police forces have yet been cut back much. The police need arming to level out the odds.
Clarkkent
Scummy Brummy.
Is this a subject on which you an expert? Birmingham is quite an attractive city now. The rioters on TV were shown in the city centre. Why are authorities in Britain reluctant to use water cannons? Loaded with flourescent dye so that perpetrators can be readily identified.EDITThey used kettling on unarmed, peaceful protesters, are they frightened to use it on yobs? Simon-the-censored
Since the G20 'riots' the police seem to be damned if they do and damned if they don't - what a crazy, crazy situation - an impotent police force due to uncontrolled liberalism.Bring in the army !Simon :-)

Frederick
Society gets the Police force it wants . Years of being held to account and having to justify every move they make has resulted in a Police Service scared to go in hard . Police chiefs I believe can be held accountable for the safety of officers under Health and Safety Legislation so they cant just put untrained and unprotected officers on streets .Not everyone is trained to quell riots . There is not a water cannon on the mainland Northern Ireland is where they are.Society has to decide what sort of Police it wants If its Police Officers who need to give somebody a whack then when they do it not rush to complain about it .I am waiting for somebody to ask the Home Secretary if she is still going ahead with the cuts in Police numbers she announced . Or does she now think its time for a U turn ?
Edward Trunk
Maybe the government will now stop making war on Aghans and Libyans - who so far have not looted a single shop in Tottenham - and concentrate on problems nearer to home.
Rabbie
Perhaps a few water canons would dampen the rioters

pachapapa
Kurds get their baseball bats out.A ridiculous situation, where Kurd and Turkish defenders are battling against attacking Black looting gangs, while predominately White policemen watch as spectators, powerless behind their shields - all on live television.[:D]
