mint
Death of Clegg?Either way, would anybody worry?http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2072887/Tory-fury-Cleggs-pygmy-insult-Britain-Lib-Dem-leader-accused-talking-nation-down.htmlYeah, yeah, DM but, this might be a case of "don't shoot the messenger".You somehow always knew that the Coalition wouldn't last the whole five years, didn't you? Gardener
I hope it does last. At least the Lib Dems in a coalition can rein in the nasty party a little bit.
mint
Gardener, don't bank on the Lib Dems to have anything like a half-nelson on the Tories. It's simply too feeble.
Quillan
With all the UK papers saying what a wonderful chap Cameron is at the moment because of his 'NO' vote this could be his 'Falklands' perhaps i.e. if they fall out now might be a good time to call an election especially after Milliband saying Cameron was wrong to vote the way he did. just john
It will last in my book because this will be the nearest the Lib dems get to power, Nick may not though, having been seen to be the other dwarf in Europe . . .

Hoddy
Is it too cynical to think that those who have office in the government like the little power they have, not to mention the salary and the ministerial cars, to give it up ? I think most of the disagreements will come from those further down the party who recognise that they have very little hope of being re-elected.Hoddy
Renaud
Nick Clegg just wants to be a european commissioner. He has no other hope of a political life after the next election.
mint
Actually, Hoddy, one can NEVER be cynical enough when it comes to the topic of politicians, money, ministerial cars and all the other trappings.Look at this and it's just a very tiny example, the tip of the iceberg, as it were...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2073012/John-Bercow-leaves-taxpayer-30k-flying-business-class.html
Russethouse
Oh yes John Bercow, I suspect more of the opposition voted for him than his own party [:)] My feeling is that Clegg/the Lib Dems will hang on and make the most of what little power they have ....... Gardener
Sadly, I dont think Labour have the right leader in Ed Miliband. I don't dislike him at all, just don't think he is leader material and I am reminded of the Pitt the even younger from Blackadder when he tries to take on Cameron. Hoddy
I know one thing for certain, after this if anyone has the audacity to tell me I've got the politicians I deserve I won't be responsible for my actions.Hoddy
cooperlola
I loved David Mitchell's take on Clegg and other modern politicians:http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/dec/04/david-mitchell-nick-clegg-rowingOf course this was written before the guy decided to stand up for one thing he actually appears to believe in. just john
''not quite as noticeable as Eric Pickles''[:D][:P]I think we all want and know that one day the UK is likely to be 'in' the euro, but not today, not tomorrow and not soon, what it will look like then I've no idea, but who doesn't wait til the sales . . . Frederick
I imagine there are plenty in his party who would want David Cameron to go for an election ASAP . While the Labour and Liberal parties still have the leaders they have now. . A freezing cold and wet day end of January that would keep Labour and Liberal voters indoors would do very nicely for the Tories I should think .
