pachapapa
After 4 more french casualties today friday operations in Afghanistan have been suspended. The Defence Minister has been dispatched to Afghanistan.A decision will be then made as to whether to anticipate the withdrawal of french troops, well in advance of the 2014 previously agreed by Sarkozy with his allies. All sounds a bit like a Sarkozy French Presidential Election manoeuvre.http://www.20minutes.fr/monde/afghanistan/863578-afghanistan-quatre-soldats-francais-tues-operations-francaises-suspendues
idun
Yes, I was thinking that it was political. When was it not, Pres S came in it was the grand geste to his 'allies' but now it'll be for the french people. I do remember everyone I knew being happy that France was not embroiled in Iraq or Afghanistan when it all started and admired Chirac for his stance. pachapapa
Worth remembering that Hollande has expressed intention to have them out BEFORE the end of 2012.It seems to me that Sarko is taking political advantage of the dead & injured. The withdrawal of the french hardware through Pakistan could be interesting.
