krusty
THE government yesterday announced it's proposal to create a new additional tax for swimming pool owners. Seen as an effort by the government to assist in the reduction of the deficit the proposal has been given a cautious welcome by the opposition. The proposal is to create a tiered tax system based on the size of the pool and is specifically targeted at "private swimming pools". Early predictions of the likely cost range between €650 per annum for smaller pools up to a maximum of €1400 per annum for larger pools. Trade and Industry Minister Fransuor Arnue warned MP's that this could also create uncertainty and anger amongst a relatively small but vocal group of property owners. "Whilst owners have been sheltered from widespread tax increases we have a duty to ensure that the deficit is reduced as quickly as possible" said Arnue. The opposition welcomes the move but suggests proposed amendments to what has been provisionally named as the Swimming Pool Income Tax. "further amendments are needed to ensure that we are maximising the S.P.I.T" said opposition spokesman. "The size to tax ratio should be carefully studied as there may be room to increase the tax from a low introductory rate for the first year" he added. The government furnished MP's with a list of common pool sizes and the proposed annual tax rate although it stressed that at this time this was purely a guide. The guide is also published on swimming pools. If the proposal is accepted it could be implemented as early as January 2013 according to government sources. Frederick
Although annoyed about the proposed tax on swimming pools ...its the proposed introduction of the emissions check for petrol mowers that gets me ... Just because people choose to have these garden kitchens and eat outdoors we are now going to have to ensure we dont send fumes their way when cutting the grass ... Its going to be a drag taking the mower to the Control Techniques for an emissions check if they bring it in .
idun
Truthfully I thought that they already increased the local taxes if there was a pool, so I thought that people were already paying. (Not for one of the above ground pools though). So have I misremembered?
