NormanH
After the discussion about the situation at Calais I found this article interesting, showing the problems facing the countries who are in the front line:http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/18/eu-border-agency-extends-sea-patrols-in-mediterranean
suein56
So what has happened to them : quote from the article 'A total of 120,000 migrants have arrived by sea in Italy so far in 2014' ?Are they being held in camps ? Sent on to somewhere else ? That is a lot of human beings.Sue
woolybanana
If they are prepared to go north, out of Italy, then I think they are given a ticket and a laissez passer! In some Italian cities there has been trouble with right wing extremists attacking groups of immigrants.
Thibault
I may be a tad cynical but it seems to me that if illegal migrants express a wish to get to the UK, for example, the receiving countries are only too pleased to send them on their way. YCCMB
If, OTOH, the EU was to put in place quotas and subsidies along the lines of the CAP, I bet they'd be falling over themselves to help. In fact, Italy would probably be sending some rather more seaworthy vessels over to Libya to pick 'em up, and France would be constructing some nice cosy accommodation at Calais where they could talk the migrants out of wanting to go any further. PaulT
Think if there is a YES vote in the Scottish referendum then the immigrants will be crossing the channel and then travelling up through England to the Slamond shangri-la of Scotland where there will be plenty for all :)
