andyh4
Finally, since gas attacks on drivers are becoming more common, Renault Trucks can also supply a gas detector. Connected to a 12 V/24 V outlet in the, it warns the driver in the event of any common asphyxiating gas being detected. One interesting word there - asphyxiating.I strongly suspect this is nothing more than an oxygen detector which will activate if the oxygen level falls below say 16% (You are generally OK and alert down to 13%).Which is great if they try and asphyxiate you. What it does not do is work with a narcotic gas. If the 16% number that I have guessed at above is close, then the cab would have 15-20% ether, chloroform or nitrous oxide inside and you would sleep soundly through the alarm. The situation would be better if it were set at say 17% or 18%, but then you run a real risk of false alarms if the driver has a propane heater installed to keep the bunk area warm.
