Blubber
Does anyone know the law regarding rights to obtain land that is attached to and used by residence of a property. After living in our cottage for two years we have been approached by a stranger who claims to own our courtyard, looking at the cadastral plans more closely he seems to be right. The land in question also has the well (our only source of water) which has been used for many years. The yard has been fenced and the garden beds mature for at least 25 years. Do we have any rights to claim ownership of the land? Anthea
Val_2
What is written exactly on your deeds? If there is no mention of this, then it looks like your notaire is at fault not to state that there are rights to these pieces which should have been disclosed when you went to sign the papers. Rights to land ownership here are a very contentious subject and usually the cause of many family feuds. Get onto your notaire pronto and get him/her to sort it out before you have no water supply.
