NormanH
Obviously these had to go ....https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/nov/20/london-loses-european-medicines-agency-amsterdam-brexit-relocationThe British government was powerless to stop the relocation of these two prized regulatory bodies, secured by previous Conservative prime ministers. The Department for Exiting the European Union had claimed the future of the agencies would be subject to the Brexit negotiations, a claim that caused disbelief in Brussels.I dare say the Daily Wail and Torygraph will say that the EU is "punishing" the UK for leaving..[:P]
mint
Not only is the European Medicines Agency going to re-locate to Amsterdam, the European Banking Authority is moving to Paris. These are big and prestigious bodies and even little Ireland was hoping to get a look-in to the banking one.Macron is one hell of a lucky president; Olympics and now the EBA. Not so the Brexit means Brexit woman.............Edit: sorry, Norman, I didn't read the article so I am repeating some of what it says. Heard it all on the news. It's not just the money (and lots of dosh is involved as these people apparently book thousands of hotel beds in London for their visitors) but the loss of standing and being insignificant. Chancer
I was gambling on the candidature of Lille Metropole winning and was close to taking a real big speculative punt, I would not have chanced my arm with Paris though.
Théière
I am getting the impression that members of the EU are starting to circle and pick off bit's of Britain leaving a dried up old reality TV, Joey Essex supporting coffee shop.
YCCMB
Interestingly, the EBA only has 189 employees. Its (approved) budget for staff costs in 2016 was 26.85 million Euros, up 15% on the previous year.
alittlebitfrench
The EBA staff are going to have a shock when they move to Paris and see the quality of housing. That is of course they find a place. Good luck with that ! Hope they are on a good salary and don't have kids. After 6 months they will be wishing they were back in London.
