And political correctness would have gone mad if he had called her a stupid person. She is a woman.

There is nothing wrong with 'stupid' man, woman, boy or girl.

And as I have said on another thread, I am quite imperfect and sometimes call my self a stupid woman...... should I be calling myself a stupid person.........???[:-))] that would be 'stupid'.
Oh goody. Looks like the gloves are off and any pretence we've moved on in the 21st century and sexist remarks are a thing of the past has now been dispensed with.
Why are the mis-heard words, stupid woman, considered to be anything other than an observation? Stupid people seems to be acceptable and I’m sure that stupid man would be too, what makes the option with woman in it sexist?
@BritinBretagne...if you'd read my post, and the subsequent one where I clarified it, my objection was to nomoss' use of the word "harridan".
Goodness me! and I thought it an apt description of that particular person of the female persuasion.

Googling for possible alternative meanings all I find is that it may be a 17th century corruption of the French for "old horse", which still does not seem to have particular sexist connotations.

EDIT: If the word feautures in the current non-pc lexicon, I'm afraid I was blissfully unaware of the fact.

I'm still fascinated that all the responses to this thread (almost) are from men, going "what? why? Seems just fine to me"

You're part of the problem.

Just because you (collective noun) as men, don't think there's anything wrong with your choice of description doesn't mean you're collectively right or that it's OK.
You absolutely stupid man. Quote the full thing.

Your wife, from your comment, doesn't object when she should. Poor stupid woman.
I didn't quote the "full thing" because what you wrote doesn't make sense.

One cannot be objectionable "to" something abstract, only to another person.

Stupid is as stupid does[:D]

Hey! you want to take away all the colourful words in the language.

But that seems to be the trend these days.

Would you object if I were to call WB a curmudgeon?

His very tolerant wife has just given him his sedative and a glass of Wincarnis so he goes to sleep and she can get a bit of peaceat home and go out to get a bit of Xmas cheer without old misery guts getting in the way.

Pity she. Will not be able to get home as the house is guarded by a drone ...... no, sorry, inhabited by a snoring drone.

Ah, so that's what you said in your subtle and imaginative way! It all comes out in the quoting[:D]

No sticks and stones, then.
