woolybanana
On 2nd August 1941, Louis Berrier was executed by the Germans. A Guernsey man, his crime was using his pigeons to send messages to England. What a waste of a life.

nomoss
Our villages and roads have many memorials, large and small, public and private, remembering people who were shot on the roadside, in a woodland clearing, or outside prisons, for resisting the occupation agreed to by their rulers. betise
We have the same here nomoss, and some of the stories behind them are heartbreaking. But there were also two collaborators that were taken out and shot after the liberation, people that had profited by reporting resistance fighters and Jews. One of them was hauled in a cart to the square in front of the church so that everyone would see and know. Which was apt, as he was the verger. YCCMB
And today, 4th August, a 15-year old Dutch girl and her family were carted off to Auschwitz after hiding in a room behind a cupboard for over 2 years.

NormanH
Down here they kill each other for less...https://www.liberation.fr/depeches/2019/08/01/un-homme-tue-par-balles-a-beziers-pour-une-place-de-parking_1743279
Judith-aka-Judith
Yes, I saw that on too, NormanH, and thought, what is society doing to itself, if a parking place is more important than someone's life. And though in a totally different league, on the UK news, yesterday, a mother who killed her two young daughters because they got in the way of her sex life. It beggars belief. richard51
If we had the same space/effort allocated to all the people who have died then there probably would not be sufficient space to enable the world population to live.Every life is precious. Lets spread out the misery.
