Lehaut
We went to Paris to the Theatre Grévin (in the Musée Grévin) to hear a friend of ours play The Tempest. It certainly makes the music more relevant if you take the time to read the notes and appreciate he wrote this at the start of his problem with hearing. mint
I can't tell you how very much I've enjoyed all your clips. Thank you (my latest French adjective that I use all the time) vivement[:D]Victor Borge has brought back great memories of watching him on TV en famille and laughing our heads off together. Strange to recall how we all always watched the TV together in the same room.....And Sabine Deveilhe....always enchanting, rivetting, wonderfully sensative. And, of course, at her age, she must be near or at the height of her powers.Thank you again.
NormanH
I love her in this too, but am also extremely impressed by the orchestra which has a lovely fresh sound that is perfect with her voice. They are all so young too...If one is old when Policemen start to look young what does it mean when orchestral musicians start to look like teenagers?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blODoHc_FVM
mint
YES, singer and orchestra, pure joy!I love how she hits every note right in the middle of the note and never makes an ugly sound[:)]
NormanH
And a nice trailer clip of herhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlnCs5eEZs8
mint
Indeed a trailer full of interest. The first time I heard her sing Queen of the Night, I was completely won over. From the way she talks about the music, you could tell you were in safe hands. Here was a singer who could get right to the essence of the music. On top of all that, she doesn't breathe[:D]
richard51
In some hundred years time will the supposed intellectuals be talking about the music from 1960s to 1980s. Whould Mozard etc really have genius compared to those in this era. They were good in their time!

mint
I hope you can access this one, Norman. I really enjoyed the concert though unfortunately there was a technical glitch of several minutes with transmission during the Saint-Saens.https://www.arte.tv/fr/videos/083948-001-A/verdun-requiems/
Patf
Mint - that short introduction - was it Carl Orff? Carmina Burana. And if Richard is still watching, another Grieg piece - how can you not like it?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ6AaBArhRwThe last movement is the surprise. NormanH
I have watched part and downloaded the rest for later.BUT the conductor murders the first two with tempi that are far too brisk.....Deveilhe stands out head and shoulders above the others for me, but that is my faiblesse qui parle
NormanH
Here is a recording of Ruhe sanft by one of my favourite sopranos (far superior to Schwarzkopf in my opinon) with good old Harry Blech who I saw several times in London in my youth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW5VBEEyljoAnd the two ladies togetherhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kefe_Abi5WU
mint
Most enjoyable, thanks.Ruhe sanft is one of my favourite songs of all time. In fact, when I got to bed, the tune was in my head for hours!OH always says that it's so lucky that we are alive AFTER Mozart.....
