NormanH
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NTGQJ1itnAI find this young Russian (9 at the time) quite astonishing...not only the technique but the musicality in the slower pieces.I have never heard the Rameau (the second piece) better played.. the birds SING not just chatter in more mechanical performances

mint
tant pis pour toi[:P] No, I didn't mean that.....it just goes to show how music is so much an individual thing, both for performers and listeners.I was captivated about 3 bars in....I promise I shall find you something more "your thing"..... NormanH
I meant 'connect' in the purely technical Internet sense...the page won't open for me ...[:D]but here it does....https://www.arte.tv/fr/videos/082783-000-A/ludwig-van-beethoven-ultimes-sonates-par-alexandre-tharaud/
mint
Sorry about that. But did you then connect to it in other senses than the purely technical?[:)]
NormanH
the Opus 110 I used to play...ish [:)] and I still have a bit of the Opus 109 in my muscular memory ( I know he didn't play that one)I always find Opus 111 a bit of a 'head banger'
mint
But Beethoven WAS a bit of a head banger, wasn't he? So, in that sense, it was truly his music. His life was one of such frustration, on all levels, that I find it incredible that he should have nursed that genius till the end. Also, I need to remind myself sometimes that the piano is indeed a percussion instrument. I was in awe of the pianist's technique.
NormanH
He was certainly a composer I imagine it must have been difficult to live with, but then who would want to be Mrs. Bach with all those children, or Mrs Mozart?Somehow I imagine Mrs Haydn probably had an easier life although there has recently been speculation as to who she was:https://michaelorenz.blogspot.com/2014/09/joseph-haydns-real-wife_11.htmlMarital Harmony:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc9xcE3I48c Although some think that they weren't compatible.. NormanH
You are of course quite right that he is a fantastic pianist, but after that something rather lighter in a blast from the past:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtDX1Vl-Jxk
