Bobc
Why can I not post private messages? The spell check works but posting the message or preview does not work.Regards,Bob Clarkehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/grindoux
Russethouse
Bob, Did you read: http://www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=29&MessageID=39367 (sorry, you will have to cut & paste the link as my system wont do clickable links)If you can get to control panel you should be able to chose PM from the options list.If that doesn't work for you, just let us know
Bobc
Gay,Thank you for taking the time to reply.I have the Control Panel but cannot find any option on there which will 'turn on' the Private Mail facility.I have just tried to send you a PM to test this again - type the message - spell check works - preview and post message do nothing.Kind regards,Bob Clarkehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/grindoux
Russethouse
When you click on PM, (if you want to PM me you click on PM under my post)it should bring up a screen with 3 boxes under the space for the message. 'Post PM ' is on the left, Spell check and I think preview are the others. Do you get those?Gay
Bobc
Gay,Thank you again for replying and for sending the PM.I tried to reply to this without success. As per my previous postings, I have the screen to type the message with three options at the bottom. The spell check works - preview and post message do nothing.I have a high-spec Dell PC running Windows XP Professional - Internet connection via Wanadoo 2mb ADSL.Your help is much appreciated, as would be some input from Forum Admin or the developers of the Forum software.Kind regards,Bob Clarkehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/grindoux

Ex Forum Admin
Bob,Can you send e-mails from within the forum OK? Also do you run Norton or other firewall and what browser are you using? Thanks
David584
ADMINI am also having the same problem re PM's. Tried sending a member a PM and although the button would "press", nothing happened.Email would appear to be working
Ex Forum Admin
Sounds obvious but you do have both a title and text in the message area as these are required fields. What system are you running, are you running a firewall and what browser are you using? Thanks.

Ex Forum Admin
I wonder if Bobc is running a firewall. I have spoken to IT and they think this may be the cause. It may be worth checking http://www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=29&MessageID=39367 or http://www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=29&MessageID=37219
Bobc
James,Thank you for your time.David H seems to be experiencing exactly the same problem. My internet connection is with Wanadoo 2mb via their own router which is an Inventel DW200 - www.inventel.com box. The firewall software in integrated within this. I do not have any problems with any other forums including a number of American building/restoration forums that I use.Without wishing to labour the point - why is the new software so slow? Slower on a new fast PC with broadband connection than on an old PC with 56k dial-up.Hopefully Archant have not paid the final balance!!Kind regards,Bob Clarkehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/grindoux
Ex Forum Admin
What is strange is HOW it can be faster on a 56k dialup than broadband/ASDL. I have broadband at work and dial up at home and it seems to be pretty quick on both comparative to other forums I use but I'm not running firewalls etc. We will be hopefully moving to different servers in the future which may help speed things up and the new version of the software should be a bit better with firewalls and is due in a few months. Bobc
James,Thank you for your reply.I also cannot understand the problem with the speed of the new Forum but given the number of other complaints it is obviously something you need to sort out with your suppliers.I assume from your reply, that the fact that I cannot post a PM lies with my PC/internet connection rather than with the Forum. If I need to post a PM to a member without a direct e-mail address, can I send it to you for forwarding?Kind regards,Bob Clarkehttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/grindoux

Coral
I am having some real strange things happening . The preview button doesn't always work. Sometimes a PM goes sometimes not Sometimes 2 miniutes after I have logged on and am trying to respond to a PM I get a Sorry .....timed out message. Whether incoming PMs disappear into a black hole.......who knows??FYI my ancient Win98 with McAfee plus firewall has fewer problems - apart from being monumentally slow The computers I use at work WinNT and 2000 all refuse me access to the Control Panel. It's there but nothing happens. The initial Pop-up from LF gets through but no access to the CP.I can live with it though I think the forum is great.
