search facility

Before posting a question I try to search to see if it has been asked before. However I do not seem to have much success and often get completely unrelated results. I am not a techie but neither am I tech-inept, so am I alone in this problem or do others have limited success too?

This site has always suffered from a poor search facility, a complaint often voiced in the past. I had hope that this would have improved when the site format was changed, but not the case. Let's hope that some improvement can be made as many sites have excellent search facilities, so maybe this is an area for improvement here.

This forum contains many words of wisdom and answers so many queries that there is a huge fund of information about France that is possibly second to none. I hope especially for new members or visitors that the situation can be improved to give them immediate answers instead of hoping sometime in the future an answer may be posted.

The best way is to conduct an advanced search:

http://forums.livingfrance.com/search.aspx?adv=1

and if you are searching for more than one word tick the "ALL of the terms entered above" box and the search will look for both/all words within the forum/section.

With Advanced Search I can't get any results with "ALL of the terms entered above" checked and I enter two or more search words.

This is very easy to prove by searching for my own posts.

Is there a special syntax required here?

Syntax doesn't seem to make a difference. If you change the search to 'message text only' it seems to perform better.

On the Advanced search, if you put in a single word (e.g. com) and leave it set to ANY words, then it finds loads of links. If you change it to ALL words then it finds one link (ANY and ALL should be the same when you have a single word !!).
