Eslier
I'm sure I am not the only one that finds these "google ads" that now appear down the right hand side of the forum pages really anoying. They take much longer to load than the forum pages and it is really tedious always having to hit the "stop" button to prevent them loading. It's unlikely that they are any use whatoever to anyone on the forum and are clearly only there to make some cash for Archant. If Archant is really so hard up, couldn't we come up with a better and more constructive method of raising money. Classified ads maybe that can be placed by forum members - now would't that would be much more useful.?If you dislike the google ads, as I do, then post your support here and perhaps someone will do something about it. Anton Redman
I do not mind provided they pay for the forumThe things which hack me off are graphic etc which swallow all my available band width
Ssc
I find them annoying and irelavent. Better without them as it takes up page width, which means more scrolling.Tony

Deimos
I use Firefox with an ad-blocker and do not get them. When I disable the ad blocker they appearand as soon as the ad-blocker is re-enabled they disappear again. Thus I had not even noticed they were there. For Firefox users there are two Ad-blockers I have used thatblock these ads (maybe more but I have not used them) – Ad Block and Adblockplus. Users of Firefox 1.5 are betterwith AdBlock Plus (as Adblock has a few “memory leaks” and Firefox can swallow alot of memory if run for a long time with this plug-in running) – Adblock Plusis fine.Ian
Deimos
One question: How do Archant make money from these ads. Do they get paid each time they are shown ordo they get paid when somebody clicks on one of their ad links ?Ian

As a business we need to explore new revenue streams...especially to support our online activity...it's a way to indirectly receive money for the forum upkeep.James

Deimos
Do the Google Ads not conflict with the “paid-for”advertising in the magazine/web site. Before making this post I re-enabled the Google Ads and in their listwere 10 French property web sites (plus one UK property web site) and one Frenchhouse renovation site (did not visit the sites but that’s what they looked liketo me).Do these companies advertise in Archant publications or arethey effectively advertising through “stealth methods” (creeping in through the“back-door”). How do those companieswho pay for ads feel about competitive ads being displayed in the forums ?Ian
Ex Forum Admin
Hi,We have a classified section in the magazines but I will look into a classified section (have to run it past powers that be).The google ads are on trial at the moment. We do have the ability to remove certain companies from the google ads (filters). The response rates for the banners and tiles are greater than the google ads and hasn't affected paid for advertising in the mags so far.
