Questions and exchanges like this one, taken from the postbag in an unrelated thread, appear from time to time.

Another thing I find strange being a member of other forums and being a moderator on some is the moderators here getting involved in the discussion, (Paul/ Bassman)

Not really - if I (or any other mod) needs to say something official we just say 'Mod hat on' it works pretty well. We have mod by the side of our names so we can be identified easily for other members to communicate.

Pauls points do crop up from time to time.

I know how the mods work, (and I agree it works well) but newcomers often don't know, and seem surprised by the fact that the Mods are also members just like the rest of us, apart from when they have to make their moddy points.

If  it's possible to update the 'new to the forum' section, perhaps elements of what both Paul and Gay say above should be included.

 I think putting something is the opening section may help, but don't forget, not everybody reads them, as is clear.
