splishsplash
I give up, I try pasting the url into the create link box & then click ok, but it never works. What am I doing wrong pleeese!
cooperlola
You may have to delete one of the "http://"s - that was my problem - it comes up in duplicate for some bizarre techy reason I don't understand.
Phil & Pat
The box where you paste the URL already has 'http://' pasted there and highlighted for your convenience. If you have copied an address beginning 'www' then just click past the http:// so that the highlighting disappears then paste in your URL.If you have copied a full URL beginning 'http://' then just paste and replace the highlighted bit.Hope that makes sense. cooperlola
I do get that P&P (although of course I don't know it's the o/p's problem). Now. However, why is it "for your convenience"? Imo, it's very inconvenient. In general, I copy url's from the box at the top of the browser (this probably has a posh name but I don't know what it is), and thus they always contain the http bit. Thus it comes up twice by default and unless some kind moderator called Cat points this out to you, you can carry on unable to link url's in blissful ignorance of this important fact.[:)]
AnOther
It's just called the address bar Coops, nothing too posh about that [:)]I don't understand why http:// isn't highlighted for you when you bring up the window. Quirky and inconvenient as it is it is the default condition and although I have searched quite a few times I have never found any way to change it [8-)]
Cat
Actually, Mrs Lola, it is very convenient having the http bit in the link box already highlighted, if you copy links from your browser [:)]All you need to do is copy the link, highlight the word or words in your message you want to turn into a link, click on the create link button, and then (without even touching anything in the link box) hit the shift and insert keys at the same time. Or you can use control and V if you prefer. It will paste your link over the top of the http bit.Easy peasy.
cassis
I would like the forum software to read my mind and post what I want through thought transference, instead of having to do all this tapping of keys and fitting in with what it wants me to do. Can you do something about this, please, Cat?
Cat
I believe that it is due to be implemented in the next forum software update cassis, let me just check...The guys in the boiler room say
cassis
Bloody typical. I'm going to have to carry on making some small effort on my own part. Tch! Call that service? I'm appalled.

Then in posting box left click to localise the edit cursor where you want it; place your mouse cursor alongside and click on right button; finally click in contextual menu on paste.http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1532342/ShowPost.aspx#1532342There you are a URL activated from the top of the page.[:D]
cooperlola
Sarcasm apart, my point was simply that it's not obvious when you first begin to try this. Of course I don't expect computers to read my mind, and I doubt the o/p does either (if indeed this was Splishsplash's problem?) There is no need to be rude to people just because computing does not come as naturally to them as it might to you. Thanks Cat (again) I will try that. Cat
I rather think that cassis was wanting something more advanced than that [:)] The simple copy and paste method that you describe is what most posters already use pachapapa, and is usually fine. Problems arise when the link is so long that it exceeds the normal page-width, as it doesn't wrap and the right hand side of the post, and all following posts on that page, disappear into the off-screen wilderness. cooperlola
Oops. I thought humour had something to do with things which were funny. But I digress. Ernie, I agree Tinyurl is great. However, the facility exists in the forum software and once you've worked out its little quirks, it's fine and doesn't require a visit to another website to get it to function (just a bit of help[:D].) splishsplash
Thanks for the suggestions about my problem here. I did wonder about duplicated http's, but when I looked, I could only see one in the box. So, I'll have another go here, delete the http bit & see what happens......http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/AddPost.aspx?PostID=1533653Grrr... that didn't work either. let's try tiny url...http://tinyurl.com/a6c4tb no that doesn't work either, am I being dense here??http://www.livingfrance.com/Ah got it, thanks Pachapapa you're a genius!
