Coco
What do you do?Tonight our cat came through the cat-flap growling (always a sign of something live bring brought in!) we were at the dinner table, where he joined us. He was clearly very proud of his catch, and we always praise him - in the hope that he is helping us rid the house of vermin, but sadly, he is usually ADDING to the problem by bringing the mice IN from outside.Tonight he dropped his prize in front of me at the dining table and the little mouse, after several seconds recovering from its concussion got up and decided to run off. Of course, Kobi quickly caught it again. He then proceeded to drop it again, this time it stopped, stood up and "boxed" at him (which always makes my soft heart melt!) At this point, when he again caught the little beggar, I made my husband push the cat out the front door and drop the mouse. My take on this? If the cat had caught a mouse in the house, it would be a useful exercise and he would be praised for killing it. However, bringing a LIVE mouse in from the garden is no help whatsoever. When the little blighter then manages to escape and has the courage to turn round and try and fight it's predator, then he deserves any break he can get. What do you do in such instances? I just have to let it go to live another day. It never wanted to come into my house in the first place!!!! Coco

Val_2
I agree with you. We get this a lot with our four cats who love hunting and usually we take the "victim" if still alive and put it a few hundred yards down the lane to give it a head start whilst keeping the hunter indoors. Voles and shrews melt my heart and one of our boys loves to put them live in any shoes left inthe porch so if it is in the trainers then the smell will get it before the cat does!! I've had live birds under my bed and on the kitchen table, dead weasely things and loads of moles bought in- all trophies with the cats almost grinning. recently two magpies turned on one of the females and chased her after she stole their eggs, talk about divine retribution.
