Jirac18
I have a bit of a thing for good value. I don't mind spending a bit extra if it means good value. Living on the cheap sometimes works out expensive in the long run. Perhaps it would be nice to hear of some things we have all found good value in France and others not so good. For me a simple thing - a petit caf noir normally 1 at the intermarche in Saumur. Thats okay but sometimes it is better value to pay 1.20 to sit at a characterful cafe or restaurant with a view of the river and the chateau. Yes more expensive and yes more enjoyable therefore better value. And still I think cheaper than a cup of dishwater coffee or tea in England -it just tastes better!Perhaps not the best example but an example none the less. What do you think is good value en France? zeb
>What do you think is >good value en France? Leader Price icecreams - Spagnola (cerise), and cappuccino - together they are devine.Dunno how much - can't remember, but whatever they were they are worth double. Oh and the Leader Price vin blanc we had tonight was good too!regards.....helen
SaligoBay
If I could find a coffee for 1.20, I would think it was excellent value!!Never seen one for 1 euro. I sometimes have to wait at the Geant Casino in an unpleasant part of Montpellier, the cafe tables are virtually in the car park, smelly low lifes trail by regularly, and even there it's 2.50 euros.Magret de canard is okay compared to Britain, I like that. Can't think of much else tho. Maybe lettuces.

Val_2
Decent locally produced port and poultry products are what I call value for money.
Lori
The Dijon mustard and the Espresso coffee from LIDL. I think the jar of Dijon (and its a good sized one) is .33 and the coffee is .99. Just can't beat it. Also the LIDL sparkeling water is great too - .25 for a litre and a half bottle. Can't leave out Leader Price either. You can really find lots of good quality products in both Leader Price and LIDL.Other than that, certainly the wine. Being American, it is FAR cheaper than the California wines we bought when we lived there. And a good baguette - which we never actually found in CA - at any price.
