les Favets
Having just bought a new car, on arrival at our supermarket large car park, I noticed that there was quite a lot of mud splashed up on the side. I'm not having that and thought " Mud flaps " there are no mud flaps on the car. On looking around the car park I noticed that the majority of French cars parked there also had NO MUD FLAPS at least only 1 in about 40 had some on. Is there a reason for this lack of protection.Les Favets
Piprob
Les favets, maybe its cost. The price of four pieces of plastic and rubber together with their fixings is exorbitant. Nevertheless, I usually do get it done. Its not so much the spray of water and muck that they reduce, but the stones - particularly given today's road resurfacing methods. I1
Several years ago when there was the big “ho-ha” about cars being more expensive in the UK than Europe, the car manufacturers stated (in their defence) that UK cars were higher spec’d. Of course I (probably like most people) treated this with the predictable attitude. However, when I purchased my car in France I actually started be believe that this was actually the case. Although I was looking at second-hand, there were no CD players, no central locking, no air conditioning, no alarm, etc. whilst I’m sure the missing items making European cars “lower spec’d” did not justify the price difference, I did get the impression that the “more optional” items were not standard (nor generally purchased) in France.(All this based on my personal search for a 2nd hand car.) Val_2
I had mud flaps ( Bavets) fitted to my Picasso when I ordered it and seem to be the only one here amongst all the other Picasso owners locally. They certainly protect the car although they don't look anything like the tradition "flappy" types that we used to have fitted in the old days, now just a piece of shaped rubber/plastic that fits round the bottom of each corner and protects against stones etc. They cost me about 120F each four years and are worth it in my opinion. Miki
I did get the impression that the “more optional” items were not standard (nor generally purchased) in France. It is also common knowledge that indicators on French cars are an optional extra as well.
