Painful spring - well not yet

How do I know that spring has sprung? It is the lizards - nope they were out in the sun when it shone on the coldest days. Is it the sudden movement from -4 C during the day last week to +20 C at 11 o'clock in the morning - well that is having something to do with it. Is it the fact that our Black Redstart has returned and is organising every bird in the garden, well almost. The real sign is the ruddy wasps of all descriptions and the odd hornet that have appeared and are starting to find there way into all sorts of interesting places where ever I seem to be. Now me, I have a total and absolute fear of anything with a sting - so yes spring has sprung, now where did I put the antihistamine, anti sting cream, the Aspivenin and most importantly the Valium - perhaps the 'Men in white coats' would be easier and solve the whole problem.

ps - I don't take Valium but the other list is true. A real paranoia - and all from a childhood incident when a swarm of flying ants landed on me. Nothing like a wasp or hornet sting but these things last

Hi Alcazar

Having lived in Africa, I can say that I really don't mind snakes - came across far too many really nasty ones to be bothered by the odd European Whip Snake which is what we seem to have here. We also have grass snakes and even they can give you a nasty suck .

Nope, bring on the snakes and the bats, just ask anything with a sting in its tail to leave northern Lot NOW. Once it rains the mozzies will arrive and I will spend the reast of the year until October looking like a female version of 'Spotted Dick'. Why do they all love me? I am just bent on killing the lot of them.

Ho hum, such is life

"looking like a female version of 'Spotted Dick'"

I've never seen Dick referred to as "Spotted" before. Will your beard be as impressive as his?

Trust me, the North Essex mozzie is just as good as the Southern European one for going through Jeans. Living on the bank of the river Colne near Colchester we used to wait for the marsh mozzies to appear. Nothing would stop them, covered in insect repellant we tried to eat outside on a few occasions but when we resembled hedgehogs with the sheer number attached to us we just turned on the 'plug in' repellant and closed all the windows. Mind you, I did seem to attract them from miles around. I've always wanted to be really loved, but why does it have to be by nasty blood sucking insects
