Does anyone live near or has visited it in the recent past. We were wondering how they were doing with it.

Mistral thanks but I had looked on the web site already. And we do regularly. It was just that it didn't look like they had done much since we were there around 5 years ago. It was a very interesting visit though.

Do you think it's worth the visit with the kids? As I said, it's out of our way, is it worth the "detour"?

I went last July, on a Sunday so their wasn't that much going on. It was interesting, but I thought it was very expensive for what it was, we were with friends with young children, who did not understand at all, and had to be watched all the time as it is dangerous in places. I wouldn't have said it was worth a detour

We went with our youngest son who was 15 then. I agree it is expensive, but we enjoyed it. That was the only reason we were in that region and moved on as soon as we had visited Guedelon, but we would visit it again.      

So is it worth a detour, depends what you like, but we didn't find anything else at all in the region to entice us to stay longer. Would depend on how much of a detour you fancied I suppose.
