Furry Knickers
I was talking to Mrs Gupta about the Hippo shop in Cormeilles a couple of weeks back while shopping for a new waterproof fridge, while we were chatting I raised the subject of Fairies and told her about the lovely Fairy world in Holland. I was really surprised when Mrs Gupta told me that the French don't believe in fairies, and don't even have a word for them! Is this true? Mrs Gupta has a house in the Dordogne and knows plenty about France, but I don't want to believe such a thing!I am going to Normandie with my new cat (Simon) on thursday, and don't know if I should raise the subject at the boulangerie or the Hippo shop? or should I raise the subject at all? I really need to clarify this situation, so I hope you can help!
Teamedup
Ofcourse they have a word for fairies and fairy tales and all things enchanted.Believing in fairies, well you have me there, I'm sure little children buy into all that, as they do with Santa Claus, but actually believing as we get older. Isn't there as much chance of people doing that here, as anywhere, I suppose, perhaps.
Dick Smith
If TU was to give you her normal advice it would be to ask about the fairies at the mairie...Alternatively visit le Village Enchanté near Mortain.

Dick Smith
Isn't Monday a Jour Fairie?Perhaps he/she should change his/her name to FairyKnickers?Ray - Korrigans are also known in Cornwall as Corrigans - beautiful blonde women by night and dreadful hags in daylight. A bit like the effect of beer goggles, I suppose.

We had a 200 yo cottage in Looe for 10 years when we were running around consulting. It was our permanent home. While not the same, many Cornish and Breton speakers can understand each other. Mistral
The French certainly don't have a tooth fairy. Teeth are collected by a mouse.
