Teamedup
Has anyone else heard about the Banque de France and all primes their staff get, including a 16eme month. Headlines say it is mal gérée, rather an understatement really.

letrangere
I know plenty of 13eme (including my own company) but how do they merit 14 or even 16? I always thought 13 was a sort of holiday bonus payment, would 14 be that plus year end? But 16? M
Richardbk
... and in addition most of their functions have been moved to the European Central Bank in Frankfurt.regs Richard
Patf
Please translate : prime, 16eme mois, mal geree. Then perhaps I'll be able to make sense of the question. Pat
Teamedup
Mal gérée is badly run.16eme month is 16th month's salary.Prime is extra benefits a company pays out. The Banque de France has 96 of these for their staff which means that their pay slips are often book length..... I imagine.
letrangere
But can someone explain why so many companies do this? My understanding is it's really just a bonus, albeit a guaranteed one? And I know of one company that merely pays their employees' annual lump sum salaries split into 13 payments, so they're not really getting any more money, it's just the way the payments are spread. Iceni
Back in the 80's I was very jealous to learn that my colleagues working for Italian & Belgian subsidiaries were paid double salaries in June and December. And then I learned that their annual salary was simply divided into 14ths !!TU - As for the banks being badly run - do you mean from a profit making perspective (which is all that matters to a bank) or from a customer service (joke) angle ?Johnnot
Teamedup
Iceni, No not banks, the Banque de France is mal gérée or so said the newspaper I read. Although I can't say that I am impressed with the other banks.MWJ, companies in France do this with some basic things. ie my husband works shifts, he gets his basic salary and then his shift allowance is a prime. However, 96 of the things as at the Banque de France is excessive.

Teamedup
monika we were told that that was what it was for. Would that the 13th month covered our income tax, never mind the rest of the local taxes.
Mistral
If I've got it right, you pay tax on your 13eme month (if you have one) but it doesn't count towards your pension. The state gains and you lose out both times, or at least that was how it was explained to me. (I don't get one but I do get a couple of primes)
