Registered to Vote

Recommended Posts

Did you realise that as long as you are registered and have someone who is prepared to vote on your behalf in the UK, you can still vote in some of the elections over there. Which is good as we have the right to vote here, if we register but have limited rights and can only vote in local and european elections.

Hmmm does that mean we will have a vote for the european constitution or not?

I am registed in the UK and will be voting in the upcoming election. It was quite a simple proceedure to get this. I will have a postal vote, although you can have a proxy. The only problem I had was when I came over I had to find a British person here who would certify that to the best of their knowledge that I was British and who also lives in France. I knew nobody! Fortunately a very nice lady at the consulate did it on the strength of my passport and birth certificate. Now I just send back the renewal form every year.

Confirmation that I have a vote in England arrived today. Not sure why I would use a proxy though, I am still able to make my intention clear if I so wish.

But as I probably won't bother is there a disenfranchised (or greedy) person out there who wishes to buy ?

John

not

We lost our right to vote in the UK a few years ago. We had twenty years, it is now down to 15 years for non residents I believe.

We were told years ago that someone would have to vote on our behalf and as the electoral office never advised us that it changed or was any different, we continued to vote in this manner.
