bryansmith
I don't know where else to post this as the FAQ section where the original information is posted does not accept replies(for obvious reasons). Thanks very much for the information on short cuts to accented words - the only problem is I cannot get them to work either here in the forum or in 'Word'.I must be doing something wrong clearly but I cannot work out what. Help please!
Will
You have to use the numbers on the numeric keypad rather than those along the top row of the keyboard - and you must ensure 'Num Lock' or whatever it is called on your keyboard is on. Then it should work both in Word and on this forum.
Ex Forum Admin
Are you holding down the 'Alt' key whilst you type the number? You will need to do this.
bryansmith
Thanks very much for the information. I was holding down Alt but not using the numeric pad. I have also discovered the 'virtual' numeric pad on my laptop computer so it has been a useful learning experience altogether.thanks again

Btuckey
The FAQ list all seems a lot of hard work to me.... If you are using Micro$oft Word and an English keyboard (if you are using a French one you don't need it!) a more 'intuitive' version is: To insertPressà, è, ì, ò, ù À, È, Ì, Ò, ÙCTRL+` (ACCENT GRAVE), the letterá, é, í, ó, ú, ýÁ, É, Í, Ó, Ú, ÝCTRL+' (APOSTROPHE), the letterâ, ê, î, ô, ûÂ, Ê, Î, Ô, ÛCTRL+SHIFT+^ (CARET), the letterã, ñ, õÃ, Ñ, ÕCTRL+SHIFT+~ (TILDE), the letterä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ÿ Ä, Ë, Ï, Ö, Ü, ŸCTRL+SHIFT+: (COLON), the letterå, ÅCTRL+SHIFT+@, a or Aæ, Æ
