Alan M
Any experience on this subject? We are planning to buy a barge and cruise the canals for the next few years,(france initially, but also holland in due course), only returning to the UK for the odd week ( funerals, weddings etc,! ). Will have small car on board. On that basis we would appear to be non UK resident for tax.The odd bit, of course, is that we will not have a permanent address in france, but will keep a mailing address in the UK. Do we get caught by the french tax system and how do we register a car?Any thoughts or advice welcome. Appreciate this is a wide subject.
Russethouse
Have you read 'Watersteps through France' by any chance ?
Tom
You might get some inspiration from this story about an Englishman who retired early, bought a small motor cruiser, and was able to live inexpensively touring French and other European waterways for about 10 years. He only started out with £4000 - it was the 1930's, and he doesn't mention taxes or stuff like that - but the principle is probably still the samehttp://crip.moorey.net/toplevel/boatpages/stories/200gbpstory.html
