How is this for a stealth tax

Recommended Posts

The CSG and RDS went up in January. Now they charge a percentage over and above Brut salary. So say you earn 2500 euros a month brut, the CSG tax is on a base of around 2600 euros a month (that is a guess, but certainly more than actual earnings).

The whole thing has stank from the beginning and is getting worse and worse.

Brut is gross.

CSG and RSD are two stealth taxes that the govt introduced here several years ago to sting everyone, or was it to pay off the spiraling debts of the Secu. It hits pensions, it hits salaries,  it hits savings accounts interest, it hits everything.

The example I gave is if one only earns 2500 euros per month brut (gross salary) the govt are no longer charging these taxes on that amount, they are charging it on more than one has actually earned.

Maybe someone who has savings could tell us all if they are doing the same with savings interest. ie the interest is 500 euros and they are charging on 520 euros. I really would like to know if wage earners are the only ones being targeted.
Teamed Up - I haven't a clue what you're talking about. What are : CSG, RDI and brut salary? Please explain. Pat.
Just to clarify, RDS= Remboursement de la Dette Sociale and CSG = Contribution Sociale Généralisée.

Not a clue why they need 2 different taxes essentially for the same purpose, ie to refill the coffers, which is after all what all taxes are for, is it not?!

OK thanks I think I understand now. So everyone is expected to help pay off all the debts of the nation. But as Saligo Bay says in another topic, the debts continue to rise. They need a woman in charge of the finances! Pat.

Quite right Pat,

My Mum would have put the revenue in the tea caddy and behind stuff on the mantel piece. Foolproof method for money management she said.
Just a thought - if everyone knows about this, how is it a stealth tax? Looks like a normal social charge to me, unpleasant but hardly extraordinary.
The point here Dick, is that succesive governments had low tax as part of their manifestos, so with the debt piling up and getting out of control, they naturally didn't want to put up the personal tax et voila CRDS and CSG arrive by the back door.

Call it what you like, it sure ain't social !! loads of people don't pay it and those of us that do, get slightly miffed that we do !

Imagine waking up tomorrow in your home, a paper slips through the door and says "Dick as from Friday we are taking a further 11% from your salary, cause we

coc ked up the running of the school" is that extraordinary or fully expected ?

Now I reckon, putting this "unpleasant" burden on bourgeoise second home owners is the real way to go

Yes miki I agree with you one hundred percent tax and tax them hard they have a second home so they must be able to afford it and while they are at it tax B&B gite owners and CdH they rake in the money and can afford to pay loads more.

TU the extra tax on what was 500 now 520( rise of 4%) would be what, not enough to cause any one a great deal of grief, nobody likes to pay taxes but if one lives in the country where one thinks taxes are to high there is the option for anyone to get out of that country, when I work I pay tax ok I pay it,its the same all over.

".... tax B&B gite owners and CdH they rake in the money and can afford to pay loads more"

Absolutely, the work is easy, we earn bundles and pay tax, you sit on yer jacksey and pay sweet FA !! Strange how some others claim to be hard working whilst doing knack all, funny old world ain't it !!

Easy to say for some lazy old sod who doesn't work, therefore you don't pay tax and if you only do a certain amount of work you won't pay tax. I realise you have to guess about tax here as you don't pay any, so you haven't got a clue as to what point it actually starts...............
