Wiser
We have had a Residence Secondaire in France for 3 years now. We have been billed (and, of course , paid) our Taxe Fonciere...but we have never been asked for our T. d`habitation. Our neighbours say " keep quiet about it" or words to that effect! However someone else has said we should let the Maire/ Hotel des Impots know or we will be hit with a fine! Does anyone konw the truth of the matter? Teamedup
Depends where you live doesn't it and how well off you are. If these taxes are next to nothing then they and the extra percentage they will charge for non payment then maybe you should take the risk.If they are expensive, and you aren't that well off then maybe you should contact them and sort it out. I wouldn't do it around here.
JohnM
For some odd reason, I experienced a couple of years before I got a habitation bill. I asked a couple of times (and got a shrug) then last year it turned up. No back payments required or fines. Somebody did offer me an explanation on here, but I can't find the answer. Val_2
And the Trésor Public have the right to help themselves to your french bank accounts to settle any unpaid debts too, so make sure you get this sorted or you may find your account in the red and closed down if sufficient funds are not in there.
