sambramley
We are hoping to buy a property in France as our permanent home and set up a business, but are unsure whether to apply for our Cartes de Sejour before or after the property purchase. My parents live in France so we could potentially 'live' there until we find somewhere to buy. The problem is that we have heard you have to have a means of income (which we don't currently have) or a certain amount of cash in the bank to qualify for a CDS. If we buy the property then apply, we might not fulfil the criteria. Does anybody have any advice for us?
Nick Trollope
Best advice is that, assuming you are already an EU citizen, then don't bother. There is no requirement for you to hold one (in any circumstances) and indeed, alot of departments are not issuing them any more.If you are not an EU citizen, ask in your local consulate. Teamedup
alot of departments are not issuing them any more If you want a titre de sejour, then you can apply for one when you are resident, not before. No Prefecture has the 'right' to not issue them. They could ofcourse refuse to give anybody one if they don't qualify for one, which is quite different.
