Advice on English 'classes'

Recommended Posts

I'm seriously thinking of starting up a group in our local village to enable the locals to 'learn English'. We've been here over a year now and are the 'only English in the village'! We have made great efforts to integrate and are slowly  getting to know local people. It takes time but it's been very rewarding. Recently I've met 2 or 3 people who speak no English but are keen to learn. I am happy to get together a group as a community 'project' and meet weekly to have simple conversation. My French is OK but I am not a teacher but enjoy communication very much. Any advice as to the best way to start and how and with what. Is there anybody out there who perhaps has sone the same thing?

Awaiting eagerly,

Carolski

Start an association under the loi1901. These are non profit making although can employ people to give lessons as well as benevole giving lessons. You should contact your Mairie or Prefecture to do this.

edit:

Usually your Mairie will give you somewhere to hold such classes for free. And they may even give your association a subvention towards running costs.

I'm rather surprised that the people who fancy doing this haven't mentioned starting an association really. Unless ofcourse you have made it clear you would want paying and then you could perhaps still have an association that employed someone, maybe you, although I'm not sure of what qualifications are required for anyone working for an association. The prefecture will be the place to check on that.
