rosiedarling<STRONG>Rosie<STRONG>
Hi We are soon to be moving furniture, bits and pieces down to our place in the Dordogne and would like to know if anybody out there can advise as to whether we can convert all our white Goods (ie Fridge freezer, washing machine, tv (ok technically not all white goods) to accept french style plugs. If we can do we do this ourselves or does someone have to do it for us.Also can anyone advise of the cheapest way to get this lot down there. Would we be better off hiring a van to bring the lot down ourselves? Grateful for any input.hehe:

You can also get inexpensive GB/Fr adaptors many places.

However, with regards to Gb/Fr adaptors/ converters a word of extreme caution, they are OK for low wattage equipment but for items such as Fridges, washing machine etc they really are not safe to use as they are not designed to carry large loads and therefore they can easily melt and become a fire risk. As a temporary situation you could us a UK multi adapter so that 13amp plugs do not need changing and just change the adapter plug to a french plug.Baz
Nick Trollope
Hi We are soon to be moving furniture, bits and pieces down to our place in the Dordogne and would like to know if anybody out there can advise as to whether we can convert all our white Goods (ie F...
As Baz & ray say, changing plugs is easy - they are quite cheap, too. But as Baz says, do not use adaptors. I would say that you should only use adaptors other than on a very temporary basis - such as a holiday, which is what they are meant for.Very few (and none of the cheap ones) are approved for use in France (ie. are not NF marked) and some of them are downright unsafe.BTW, you may find it easier and cheaper to flog your stuff in the UK and buy again in France, considering the cost of transport to the Dordogne & the difficulty you will have in getting UK stuff repaired, should you need it. I have a cave full of only-slightly-duff UK white goods that are good for nowt..Also, your UK TV will probably NOT work in France (the broadcast systems are different).Take a look at the TV forum.
