Miki
Anyone been contacted by this company, Direct Energie ?http://energie1.ifrance.com/We would, like most, try to save money on our annual bills (You don't want toknow the annual total we spend with E.D.F !) but the thoughts of howthe UK has gone and all the companies offering you cheaper electric, along with the problems sometimes associated with changing companies.I like their headline. Same electric, less expensive and......With Direct Energie nothing changes but the price.... note, a bit of entrepreneurial skill there Mr Bush !!Well, I have emailed for details, so we shall see................ Owens88
Good luck and keep us informed.I have some severe reservations though. The site avoids actually listing tariffs (as far as I can tell) yet does resort to gimmicky swirly stuff to fill your time. ALSO it has about 20 unrelated adverts at the foot of the page. More a Jumble Sale than a worthy national operation I fear.
BJSLIV
I dread to think what it will be like in 2007 when household users are allowed to change suppliers. Electricity suppliers in the UK often make a complete hash of handling the transfers. Heaven only knows what the French will do when they addin the requirements for a few registered letters, twelve month rolling contracts, advance notice of cancelation........So keep us informed how you get on Miki, we will regard you as our pathfinder! Only a state protected monopoly could hope to get away with EDF standing charges and poor choice of tariff options. My phone service is provided by a UK based company and the call rates are lower and less complicated than any I've seen from French providers.Roll on deregulation!Patrick

For astart, I know SB likes to get her teeth in to things like this. I haveto admit, it is a little bit suck it ands ee, not much to go on fromthe site, it has more of a feel of a mail out to see which mug, I meanwhich people they get replies from, to then "cold call back".I have already had a call this afternoon from the Var asking me if Ihad some minutes to spare and they would explain things to me,unfortunately, I was out in the car and as I was paying for thetransfer of the call and of course being safety conscious, I asked themto call back tomorrow morning, who shall I/we designate for that calland to tread where no other LF member has trodden ?If I hear nothing by the morning...................I guess that kinda means me then !In the mean time, if anyone thinks I might be treading on their toes, please do feel free to tell me, thanks in advance. Teamedup
Pray let me know how it compares to my EJP Miki......... I know, I know it was a bummer when they stopped that, you never know with a little competition maybe they will bring it back.

The Riff-Raff Element
I wouldn't expect too much in the way of competition, though. All these"new" suppliers will still have to buy from EDF (who will maintain ifnot a monopoly then something close to it) and will have to use EDFlines to deliver. I was quite a fan of derugulation until I saw theresulting beggers' muddle that arose in the UK, so now I'm not so sure.Perhaps these new chaps are hoping to make money on the energy tradinggame by having a position rather than turning a crust on actuallyretailing the stuff. I had a peer at their website andthere is a remarkable paucity of information there - who they are, forexample. The only address on there seems to be for the company thatbuilt the site...all a bit suspect, and certainly no match for adetermined set of teeth. Miki
Well, nearly 23h30 and it doesn't look like the promised call is going happen !I am out tomorrow afternoon, so unless they ring in the morning, another day will pass.
