SaligoBay
He was brilliant as Caius Céplus in the Asterix film. Do you think he'd make as good a job of being president of France? http://www.msn.fr/news/gen/Default.asp?id=060124201311.m1e19z25.asp&MSPSA=1[:)]
Clarkkent
France is a secular state. The name makes him ineligible.
The Riff-Raff Element
Personally I think that this is a plan with few or no flaws. If he hisses in that threatening manner that he uses in mission cleopatreI imagine that he should quickly gain the respect (fear - a greatmotivator) of Sarko and Dom-Dom. It would certainly make meetings ofthe EU comission more fun. Actors should enter politics: most existingpoliticians (usually lawyers, it seems) have little grasp of the realworld, so having professionals in instead to maintain the fictions ofgovernment should be highly satisfactory. Old Ronnie R did a splendidjob in the US, after all, and he was only awake about 25% of the time.[:D]
Mochas
Off the top of my head I can think of several other actors who've become politicians:Glenda Jackson MPThe one from East Enders, now an MEPSonny (of he and Cher) onetime Mayor of Palm SpringsClint Eastwood ditto of CarmelArnold Schw etc now Governor of Californiaand not forgetting (how could we?) La Cicciolina, the Italian porn star who somehow managed to become an MP...Don't know of any French ones though.

[:)]There's probably an obscure ancient French law which says that you're not allowed to be president if you have curly hair and wear an anorak. If he made it, he would be President M'Bala M'Bala.............. BJSLIV
On a more serious note it would be hard to predict the impact of his infamous antisemitic sketches.(Heil Israel etc etc)

It's very easy for us PC whities to think we're the only ones who do racism. Was it just a sketch, or did he mean it..............or maybe I'm just harbouring a secret desire to have the hissing Caius Céplus as president. Mochas
It wasn't that I missed Ronald Reagan - jond had already mentioned him.I suppose I could have included Tony Blair though.

moonraker
He died in a motorbike accident in 1986 unfortunately. He founded the "restos du coeur" and they are still going strong! Teamedup
Coluche just 'died in a motorbike accident'Didn't feel like that at the time................. so I am rather with the conspiracy theorists on this one.

There may have been someone else too -no matter. Now T Banks was only a sometime embarassment in the foot /mouth juxtraposition stakes, but the other two were downright bolshie.I'd be quite worried were I Clare Short. T.Blair has a tenuous link toshow biz (having seen a couple of his father-in-laws treading of theboards, "tenuous" may be a bit generous), so I suppose he could sneakin under the wire....
